U N I V E R S I T Ä T S K L I N I K U M U L M The Department for Internal Medicine III of the University Hospital of Ulm with a main focus on hematology, oncology, rheumatology and infectious disease has an opening for a Research Associate (molecular biologist) Environment: The Department of Internal Medicine III has a strong focus on translational and clinical research in hematology and oncology. There are numerous interactions and collaborations with national and international research groups. Currently, research activities focus e.g. the identification and characterization of candidate genes in aggressive Lymphoma (for further information see also www.uni-ulm.de/onkologie/). Project: Within a national network project (Molecular Mechanisms in Malignant Lymphoma; MMML, financed by the Deutsche Krebshilfe) dysregulated genes with possible relevance for the pathogenesis of lymphoproliferative disorders have been identified. To further investigate the functional relevance of selected candidate genes, transfection studies (transient, stable; lentiviral) primarily focusing on siRNA knock down experiments in aggressive lymphoma- and burkitt lymphoma cell lines and subsequent read out experiments will be performed. The project offers either the possibility to obtain a doctor degree or to perform a scientific part time activity (50 %). Requirements: - applicants must hold a diploma in biology or biochemistry - strong background in molecular biology, minimum 2 years experience working with standard cell cultures and molecular biology techniques (PCR; southern blots; cytometry, etc.) - good interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills Conditions: - position available from August 1st or later (initially limited to 2 years with the possibility to extend the contract) - salary according to TVL Please send applications until July 31, 2008 to: Universitätsklinikum Ulm Professor Dr. H.
